Instructor-centered and student-centered are two different learning modes, I think their instructor-student relationships and learning effects will also be different. In instructor-centered, for example, like private schools in ancient China, students always put teachers first, and focusing on the knowledge they give. When encountering problems, students will consult their instructors immediately, and they will be given detailed explanations and answers.

However, with the development of education and technology, people’s learning mode is no longer single. The student-centered pays more attention to improving efficiency and students’ active participation. In the class, the instructor’s job is no longer a single transmission of knowledge, but to lead us to autonomous learning, to find a more suitable learning method, which can not only improve the students’ participation in class, also give students more space to develop their own potential, such as thought, psychology, knowledge structure and the ability to analyze and deal with problems.

The online course we are taking is a student-centered example. Every week, according to the articles and posts published by instructor, leading us to develop our own thinking and publishing our own opinions. Every student can get different knowledge and opinions from others. It can be said the learning mode has gradually changed from instructor-centered to student-centered, but the advantages of instructor-centered cannot be completely denied. The instructor-centered is more suitable for small class teaching, can make every student get attention, instead, for the large class, student-centered plays a good role, students can according to the instructor’s target and direction, learn and understand in their own ways. So I think they are not two opposite sides, but complementary. instructor-centered is also inseparable from students’ discussion and problems, and student-centered is inseparable from teachers’ leadership.

In my opinion, the synchronous learning is similar to the instructor-centered learning. The main structure is to organize teaching, which is mainly divided into reviewing knowledge, imparting new lessons, consolidating new lessons and assigning homework. It seems to teach you knowledge, but it doesn’t teach you how to learn. For example, the face to face class is the synchronous. Students are in a passive learning position. The asynchronous learning method is mainly divided into raising questions, indicating methods, students learn, understand the goal, discuss and summarize which is similar with the student-centered learning. To be honest, online course is a good example of asynchronous learning. Students mainly study by themselves, actively explore problems they do not understand, discuss with other students and professors, and consult reference books and reference materials. Students’ autonomous learning ability and learning efficiency are constantly enhanced. Compared with synchronous learning, I prefer asynchronous learning, it has no time and place restrictions, you can study at home, in the coffee shop, or in the library, wherever you want to study, you can study. In addition, the learning methods given to us are also more extensive, because everyone’s learning goals are the same, but the learning methods are different, which means that the understanding of knowledge and viewpoints are different. Asynchronous learning gives us a better space to discuss and think about problems, and also provides an equal relationship between professors and students, creating a loose and harmonious teaching environment.

In my opinion, if you have a suitable learning mode, you should also have a suitable learning method. With the development of network and technology, connectivism can be said to be a learning theory. It is mentioned in the article that the characteristic of this theory is to improve students’ ability to learn knowledge and perception by increasing personal network. Through these personal networks, learners can gain a variety of perspectives. Learners can share and learn through cooperation. There is no doubt that online learning is a direct technical response to different learning cultures, methods, and inspirations. In general, it is a tool for teaching or course learning, rather than an independent learning theory. It is a good idea to combine connectivism with asynchronous learning to maximize students’ ability to acquire knowledge.
